3.6: Use uPresenter From Claude Or Codex

If you already work with Claude or Codex, you do not have to copy text back and forth between your chat and uPresenter. The uPresenter plugin lets the assistant build and edit presentations directly in your uPresenter account: you describe the lesson in the chat, and the slides appear in the editor you have open.

This section shows you how to install the plugin, sign in once, start your first session, and remove access when you no longer need it.

1. Understand What The Plugin Is

The plugin is a small add-on for your AI assistant. It does two things:

It is different from the other AI options you have already met:

Option Where you chat What it uses
AI Agent (Section 3.3) Inside the uPresenter editor uPresenter credits
Connect AI (Section 3.3) In Codex, Claude Code, or Gemini CLI, linked to one presentation Your own AI account
uPresenter plugin (this section) In Claude or Codex, working across your account Your own AI account

Choose the plugin when you prefer to start in Claude or Codex, want the assistant to pick a template and build a whole lesson, and would like to keep the conversation in the tool you already use.

What You Need

2. Install The Plugin In Claude

How you install depends on which Claude app you use.

Claude Code

Claude Code is the terminal version of Claude. Run these two commands, one after the other:

claude plugin marketplace add uLearnBox/upresenter-plugin
claude plugin install upresenter@upresenter

Then, inside Claude Code, type /mcp, choose upresenter, and select Authenticate. Your browser opens the uPresenter sign-in; continue with Section 4.

If you only want the connection without the lesson-building know-how, the Connect AI dialog in the editor also offers a Claude Code command for the same server.

Claude Desktop And Claude On The Web

  1. Open Claude's Settings and choose Plugins in the Customize group.
  2. Add the uPresenter plugin. When uPresenter is listed in the Plugins directory, find it there and select Install. Until then, add the plugin file provided by uPresenter (a .zip or .plugin archive) with the option for adding a plugin from a file.
  3. Open the uPresenter plugin page. If it says you are not connected yet, select Connect. Your browser opens the uPresenter sign-in; continue with Section 4.

If you cannot add a plugin, you can still connect Claude without the extra lesson-building skills: in the editor, select AI, then Connect AI, choose Claude, and follow the steps shown there (they use Customize, Connectors, and Add custom connector).

The Claude screens change from time to time. If a label here differs from what you see, look for the same words (Plugins, Install, Connect) on the nearby screen.

3. Install The Plugin In Codex

Codex works from the terminal, the Codex desktop app, or an IDE extension. They share one configuration, so you install once. In a terminal, run:

codex plugin marketplace add uLearnBox/upresenter-plugin
codex plugin add upresenter@upresenter
codex mcp login upresenter

The last command opens your browser so you can sign in to uPresenter; continue with Section 4. If you use the Codex app or an IDE, restart it and open a new thread so that it picks up the plugin.

You may notice that Codex shows a shorter list of uPresenter abilities than Claude does. That is intentional, because Codex works best with a smaller list. When the assistant needs something that is not on the short list, it looks the ability up by itself (using the helper functions searchTools, describeTool, and callTool) and runs it for you. There is nothing for you to set up or choose.

4. Connect Your uPresenter Account

When you sign in, your browser opens a uPresenter page titled Connect Claude to uPresenter? (the name in the title is the app that asked for access, such as Claude or Codex). If you are not signed in to uPresenter yet, you are asked to sign in first and then returned to this page.

Read the page before you continue:

You may also see a yellow notice:

The notice is a safety check, not an error. When you did not start the connection, select Cancel.

Select Allow to finish, or Cancel to decline. The page then returns you to your assistant. If you wait too long you may see This request has expired; go back to the assistant and start the connection again.

5. Manage Or Remove Access

You stay in control after connecting. To review the apps that can reach your account:

  1. Open Settings from the main navigation.
  2. Select the Connected apps tab. It is hidden in the learner view of the dashboard.
  3. Find the app in the list. Each card shows its name, a badge that says Can edit or Read only, where it returns to, when it was connected, and when it was last used.
  4. To end the connection, select Remove access.
  5. A confirmation titled Remove plus the app name (for example, Remove Claude?) appears. It explains that the app immediately loses access and that you can connect it again at any time. Select Remove access to confirm, or Cancel to keep it.

Remove access whenever you stop using a tool, lend a computer to someone else, or connected an app by mistake. The editor's Connect AI dialog also has a Manage connected apps button that opens the same tab.

6. Run Your First Session

Start a new chat in Claude or Codex after you have connected. A chat that was already open before you installed the plugin may not know about it.

Keep An Editor Tab Open

The assistant changes slides in the presentation you have open in the uPresenter editor, so it needs that tab to be open. Think of the tab as the shared screen: the assistant works on it, and you watch each change appear. If you close the tab, the assistant can no longer reach the slides and will ask you to open the editor again.

Ask For A New Presentation

Describe what you want in plain language, for example:

Make a 10-slide lesson on photosynthesis for grade 6, in a friendly tone, with a short quiz at the end.

The assistant may first ask which design you prefer. It shows a few templates that suit your topic, plus Design from scratch. Pick one; the first option is usually the recommended choice.

Next, the assistant gives you a link that creates the new presentation. Open the link in your browser and leave that tab open. The assistant then notices the editor and begins building: it inserts slides from the template, replaces the sample text with your content, and checks the result.

Ask For Changes To An Existing Presentation

To work on a lesson you already have, open it in the editor and keep the tab open. You can also ask the assistant to list your presentations; it gives you a link to the one you want so you can open it.

Requests That Work Well

Write Better Prompts

Include as much of the following as you know:

Check The Result

The assistant looks at its own slides after building and fixes obvious problems, but you are still the author. Open the presentation, move through every slide, and check the facts, the wording, the images, the quiz answers, and the player settings. Use Undo in the editor for a change you do not want, or ask the assistant to undo it. For larger changes, version history lets you go back to an earlier state.

7. Know What The Plugin Cannot Do

The plugin is for building and editing content. Do the following in uPresenter yourself:

Task Where to do it
Export to PDF, images, HTML5, SCORM, or xAPI; publishing and sharing settings Part XV: Exporting Content and Part XIV: Sharing, Publishing, And Public Profiles
Reports Part XVI: Reports And Analytics
Classes and assignments Part XVII: Classes And Learner Management
Account, billing, and credits Part XIX: Account, Subscription, Credits, Storage, And Privacy
Version history, speaker notes, image alt text, and video captions The uPresenter editor
Making new pictures with AI The editor's own AI image tools (Section 3.3)

The assistant also works only on a presentation open in the editor. It does not read your other websites or files, and it cannot sign in as you.

If you ask for something it cannot do, a well-behaved assistant tells you so and points you to the editor. If it ever says it has exported a file or changed a setting outside the editor, check in uPresenter before relying on it.

Troubleshooting

What happens What to do
The assistant says it has no uPresenter tools after you signed in Start a new chat (or a new Codex thread). Chats that were open before the plugin was installed do not pick it up. In Claude Code, check /mcp shows upresenter as connected.
The assistant says no presentation is open Open the presentation, or the link the assistant gave you, in the uPresenter editor and keep the tab open. Then ask it to try again.
The sign-in page does not open Check that your browser allows the pop-up or new tab, then repeat the sign-in step: /mcp and Authenticate in Claude Code, codex mcp login upresenter in Codex, or Connect on the plugin page in Claude.
The consent page says This request has expired Return to the assistant and start the connection again.
The consent page shows the wrong email Select Cancel, sign out of uPresenter, sign in with the right account, and connect again. Then check Connected apps to remove any app connected to the wrong account.
Codex lists only a few uPresenter abilities This is normal. Codex finds other abilities on its own when it needs them.
An export, a report, or a class is requested and nothing happens The plugin cannot do these. Use the editor, as described in Section 7.
The assistant stops responding to editor changes Check that the editor tab is still open and has not reloaded onto a different presentation.
